Valentine’s Day is all about hearts. Stores are filled with heart shaped cards and candy, bears holding hearts that say ‘I Love You’, and heart covered clothing. Not even pizza is immune from the being turned into a heart on Valentine’s Day. With all this joy and celebration around the shape that symbolizes love, let’s not forget the heart inside your loved one’s chest.

Inspiration and Empty Calories in a Land of Plenty

I was home, invited to participate as a guest chef in “Saborea 2017,” the island’s internationally renowned four-day culinary extravaganza. The event is always over the top, even more so this year, in celebration of its tenth anniversary. There are visiting chefs and foodies from all over the world, and I am always inspired by the fresh local ingredients, the bold food choices, the beautiful presentations.

Mother is (Almost) Always Right

Looking back, I appreciate the access I had to a good life. And now, at this stage of my life, I have the privilege of paying it forward. At Advocate Community Providers, I have the opportunity of collaborating with dedicated Community Health Workers to spread a healthy message, especially in the Latino community.
