Yomaris Peña

CHIEF MEDICAL OFFICER, MD

Dr. Yomaris Peña  is a young and successful doctor who has earned the love and respect of her community and everyone who has met her during her career as a medical doctor and assistant professor at two prestigious universities in the Dominican Republic and the United States. She considers herself a citizen of the universe, even though her roots of origin are in the Dominican Republic.

Being born in Santiago, a city in the Dominican Republic and raised for half of her life in Puerto Rico enabled her to learn about different cultures and adapt medicine to each person as she recognized that diversity and different ideologies may interfere with the health and overall wellness plan for each one of us. She strives to understand and connect with every person that she comes in contact with to best meet their needs. Keeping patients healthy (physically and emotionally) is her goal.

Dr. Peña performed part of her Internship as a medical student in St. Barnabas Hospital in the Bronx, NY and Creighton University Medical Center, Nebraska for Internal Medicine and
Anesthesiology respectively, also in community hospitals in the Dominican Republic such as
Arturo Grullon- Pediatrics Center and Hospital Jose Maria Cabral y Baez (Ob/GYN and
Surgery). She graduated from medical school at the age of 23 and was a Magna Cum Laude graduate of Pontificia Universidad Catholic Madre y Maestra Santiago in Dominican Rep. (PUCMM).

Later Dr. Peña became an Assistant Professor in the Morphology Department-PUCMM from 2001 until 2004, facilitating classes in embryology, anatomy and histology. She also completed her Internal Medicine Residency at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, now Rutgers University Medical Center, from 2006- 2009, where she was exposed to underserved communities such as Newark and East Orange to the privileged patient population of Hackensack, NJ.

Dr. Peña has since worked in the Private Practice Sector in underserved communities of NYC
providing care to patients with low income. In February 2022 she was appointed        SOMOS Community Care’s Chief Medical Officer.
