About SOMOS:

SOMOS is a non-profit, physician-led network of nearly 2,000 health care providers serving over 700,000 Medicaid beneficiaries in New York City. Launched in 2015 by its Chairman Dr. Ramon Tallaj, SOMOS is the largest and only physician-led performance provider system participating in the New York State Delivery System Reform Incentive Payment Program (DSRIP).  The SOMOS network includes providers delivering culturally competent care to patients in some of New York City’s most vulnerable populations, particularly Latino, Asian, African-American and immigrant communities throughout the Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan and Queens.

 

Communications Department Overview:
The Communications Department is tasked with promoting the profile of the organization’s brand and efforts to close disparities in health among underserved communities by formulating and executing effective brand awareness campaigns as well as mobilizing internal and external support. The team oversees planning for news conferences and public facing events, including site scouting, arranging for banners and other graphics to be displayed at the event, preparing packets of information to distribute to the media and preparing executives for press interviews.  The office manages the organization’s website, blogs, and social media. The department oversees media relations, including writing and distributing news releases and responding to media inquiries. In addition to conveying the organization’s message and efforts to external audiences, communicators are also responsible for internal communications, which includes designing newsletters, journal ads, and fliers as well as working with the Compliance and HR departments to formulate workplace policies, announce information about corporate activities, benefits and trainings.

Communications Associate

Position Overview:

The Communications Associate will support the communications team in day-to-day operations and prioritize projects and tasks, meet multiple deadlines, and monitor several projects simultaneously. The position requires superb organizational skills. The candidate must be highly detail-oriented with creative writing skills and an entrepreneurial spirit. The role will work across multiple teams including that development, design/marketing events. Some knowledge of Spanish and/or Mandarin/Cantonese preferred. This position will report directly to the Vice President of Communications.

Responsibilities:

  • Create social media content and design infographics for social media to promote events, original reports, and on-going campaigns;
  • Extensive knowledge of Photoshop, InDesign, and Adobe Acrobat Pro (Illustrator a plus)
  • Develop and manage social media strategy and content across all platforms
  • Serve as social media point person with consultants and partners, ensuring coordinated messaging and visuals;
  • Create e-newsletter, fliers, journal ads, and brochures;
  • Create internal marketing and promotional materials;
  • Work with consultants to proofread ads, fliers and other marketing materials;
  • Pitch media advisories, press releases, and op-eds;
  • Work across departments to design and draft content for internal bi-monthly newsletter;
  • Prepare agendas, interview briefs and talking points; and
  • Write and edit content for the website.


Education: minimum four-year college degree in communications or related field

Communications Manager

Position Overview:

Communications Manager will work closely with communications staff to understand the workings, product lines, and deliverables of each associate and, in turn, develop effective written content that advances mission and brand. Some knowledge of Spanish and/or Mandarin/Cantonese preferred. This position will support and report directly to the Vice President of Communications.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop, execute, streamline, and elevate internal and external communications strategies and processes to drive the mission and brand;
  • Lead media relations efforts by managing press relations, pitching and developing relationships with the media, and identifying opportunities to advance through print and online publications;
  • Manage e-newsletter, website content and design as well as community event planning;
  • Produce a wide range of communications content including but not limited to press releases, media advisories, presentations, web copy, social media messaging, blog posts, newsletter and talking points;
  • Collaborate with consultants to craft brand positioning, brand voice, and key marketing message points;
  • Assist with media training of the Chairman and other executives;
  • Support copywriting efforts across marketing, programs and other internal departments to ensure a cohesive brand voice and tone and
  • Maintain relationships with New York City and state reporters, producers, editors at leading media outlets preferred.

 

Education: minimum four-year college degree in communications or related field
