Compliance Reminder: Recognizing Fraud, Waste and Abuse

Fraud – When someone intentionally falsifies information or deceives Medicaid (or Medicare).

Waste – When someone consumes, spends, or expends uselessly or carelessly.

Abuse – When health care providers or suppliers don’t follow proper medical practices, resulting in unnecessary costs, improper payment, or services that aren’t medically necessary.
