Henry Chen, M.D. President of the Board
Dr. Chen has been a community-based Primary Care Physician in private practice for more than 20 years in New York City, where he manages patients’ health care in the Asian communities of Brooklyn and Manhattan. He is the past President of the Association of Chinese American Physicians (ACAP, 2006-2008). Dr. Chen is the Founder and CEO of the Eastern Chinese American Physician IPA (ECAP) and is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of the Chinese Community Accountable Care Organization (CCACO).
Dr. Chen has been a contributing author on more than ten medical publications. His practice has been recognized by the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) multiple times for PCMH (Patient-Centered Medical Home). PCMH is a healthcare model that puts patients at the forefront of care. PCMHs foster improved relationships between people and their clinical care providers. Research shows they improve quality, patient experience, and staff satisfaction while reducing healthcare costs.
In 1996, Dr. Chen completed a three-year intensive residency training program in Internal Medicine at the New York Hospital of Queens (Cornell Medical School.) Earlier, he graduated from Guangzhou Medical College, majoring in medicine, and he also graduated from the Sun Yat Sen University of Medical Science with a master’s degree in surgery. He is a Board-Certified internist, geriatrician, and licensed physician acupuncturist. His certifications include NCQA Patient-Centered Medical Home and Bridges to Excellence: Physician Office Systems Recognition Program.
Dr. Chen’s areas of expertise include internal medicine, geriatric medicine, PCMH implementation, and health care administration. Among his many awards and recognitions, he has been honored with the United States Presidential Lifetime Achievement under the Biden Administration, the Tribute to Excellence in Healthcare by the United Hospital Fund, the Public Champion Award by the Chinese American Nurses Association, Certificate of Recognition by the State of New York Executive Chamber, Certificate of Special Recognition congresswoman Grace Meng, the ACAP Distinguished Service Award, Visionary Leadership Award by the Visiting Nurse NY Association, and the Spirit of Asian America Arad by the Asian American Federation. He has also been recognized numerous times by the N.Y. City & State organization.
